Cannabis concentrates can scare off newbies, but their uses medicinally for those seeking pain relief should not be ignored. As a post-surgical degenerative disc disease sufferer who experienced a bout of acute pain recently, the Appalachian Pharm Live Resin Terp Sauce I purchased relieved my pain in a way that I can’t get with my daily MMJ routine.
I’ll explain a little more about my experience:

Packaging:
The Live Resin Terp Sauce came packaged in a small black cardboard box. I did have to rip the label when I opened it, which was one drawback since I like to keep the packaging for later reference. Inside was a small metal tool for scooping.
The packaging label notes that this strain is 1 gram of Appalachian Pharm Vapen Concentrate Peanut Butter Mac Live Resin Terp Sauce. It says it was extracted with hydrocarbons to make the LIve Resin Terp Sauce. The Terp Sauce contains 626 mg of total THC, with 699 mg THCA and 12.6 mg Delta 9 THC.

The Strain: PB MAC (Peanut Butter Breath x M.A.C.)
I knew this strain would be a winner since I had it in flower just a few weeks ago and really enjoyed it. PB MAC is a hybrid known for its relaxing, euphoric, and creative qualities. It’s got an earthy, peanut-y flavor heavy in Terpinolene, Caryophyllene, and Myrcene.
Unboxing
Inside the cardboard box sits a small glass jar full of the Terp Sauce. I unscrewed the black plastic lid easily with just a slight turn of my wrist counter-clockwise. Inside I can see the product. It’s a golden yellow color. The consistency is sort of saucy, but almost more like a sugar.
What is Live Resin Terp Sauce, anyway?
Live resin terp sauce is a cannabis concentrate that combines two popular extraction techniques: live resin and terpene extraction. Here’s a breakdown of the terms:
Live Resin: This extraction method involves harvesting and immediately freezing the cannabis plant, preserving the cannabinoids and terpenes at their peak freshness. The entire plant is usually used, including the buds, leaves, and sometimes even the stems. The freezing process helps retain the plant’s original flavor profile.
Terp Sauce: Terp sauce is a type of high-terpene full-spectrum extract that is composed of a thick, liquid solution of terpenes and diamond-like formations of cannabinoids. Terp sauce contains a higher percentage of terpenes compared to other concentrates.
When you combine live resin and terp sauce, you get a product that maintains the full spectrum of cannabinoids and terpenes found in the original cannabis plant. This combination results in a concentrate with a potent and robust flavor profile, capturing the essence of the live plant.
Consumers often appreciate live resin terp sauce for its:
- Flavor: The process of using live resin helps preserve the original flavor of the cannabis strain, and the addition of terpenes enhances the taste experience.
- Aroma: Terpenes contribute to the aromatic profile of cannabis, and a high terpene content in live resin terp sauce means a more aromatic concentrate.
- Effect: With a full spectrum of cannabinoids, live resin terp sauce may offer a more well-rounded and nuanced high compared to isolates.
The potency, flavor, and effects of live resin terp sauce can vary depending on the specific cannabis strain used and the extraction methods.

Why I Chose It
First off, let me just say I was HURTING. I did too much unnecessary lifting and stretching before the holidays, and BAM! It caught up with me. I take medical marijuana daily to ease the pain I still have as a degenerative disc disease patient after two lumbar fusion and laminectomy surgeries. It does not take much to tweak my back out and make for a week in bed. And that’s exactly what happened.
As someone who’s 5 years clean from opioids, I have a few tricks up my sleeve for acute pain relief these days–and one of them is cannabis concentrates! My regular daily chronic pain can typically be managed with edibles and RSO, but with this sharp back pain, those just wouldn’t cut it. I needed something that would hit hard and act FAST.

How I Used It:
I used the Live Resin Terp Sauce with a device sometimes referred to as a nectar collector.
A nectar collector, aka honey straw or dab straw, is a portable dab rig that works in a unique and easy way. With the nectar collector, you heat the tip with a torch and apply it to the concentrate to vaporize it. With a traditional dab rig, you put the concentrate on a hot nail.
Ohio’s MMJ laws limited the options patients had when it came to purchasing dab rigs and certain consumption devices, but that’s not a worry now that all adults can use cannabis at home. Budget-conscious patients might consider a different device than what’s offered at your dispensary or what once appeared on the (now-missing) Board of Pharmacy’s approved OMMCP device list.
PB Mac Live Resin Terp Sauce Effects
This strain was just what I needed for being laid up in bed for a few days. From the first inhalation, it was smooth and very distinctive in terpinolene flavor. It felt really medicinal and I didn’t cough at all, which I sometimes do with concentrates. This one was so relaxing, and after just a few more hits, the shooting pain from my lower back radiating down my left hip began to subside. Within an hour, I was able to feel comfort enough to go to sleep.

Final Thoughts
This one was worth a try, especially if you’re a back pain sufferer like me who’s relatively new to using concentrates. Using a device like a plain old inexpensive nectar collector can reduce the cost barrier of trying concentrates. If you’ve thought about whether concentrates might be right for you, but haven’t because of the OMMCP’s previous restrictions, now is the time!
