On the brink of an expanded cannabis market in Ohio, MedicateOH founders announce a third offering of our Cannabis Writers’ Workshop. We designed the 5-session online workshop for students developing career skills for Ohio’s cannabis industry as well as for advocates and industry professionals wishing to strengthen and amplify their messaging. The course returns January 29th.

The Need: Ohio’s Industry to Grow

MedicateOH has been reporting on the Ohio medical marijuana program since 2019. We developed our 5-session online course for prospective MedicateOH writers, students, and industry sales and marketing professionals. We’ve offered the course twice, the first in May 2021 and the second in July 2022.

Next year, Ohio will begin an adult-use cannabis market that will operate alongside the current medical marijuana program. Qualified communicators will need to cover these stories. MedicateOH.com currently reaches about 50,000 viewers annually. Covering newly-legal topics like home grow and edibles processing will help us build our collective knowledge for our community.

“Budding” Writers Wanted: Scholarship Essay Contest

This year, MedicateOH will again offer an essay contest for “budding” writers. Our team will award scholarships based on these essays.

ESSAY CONTEST Student applicants will submit a 500 to 1,000-word essay about an innovation they’ve seen or would like to see in the medical cannabis industry. Consider areas such as technology, patient access, environment, education, and social impact.

Submit below or go to https://www.jotform.com/build/230826888677173.

Scholarship deadline is Monday, January 8th.

The Cannabis Writers’ Workshop: Starting January 29th

The offering comes as the state’s industry appears poised for explosive growth. Capturing the various unique stories, companies, and products in the Ohio cannabis industry will be important.

We designed the Cannabis Writers’ Workshop to share tips and guide assignments with the goal of developing cannabis content that’s appropriate and impactful. Class participants develop stories with the goal to prepare them for publication on MedicateOH.com.

The Workshop will be held via Zoom. This year, the courses take place on Monday mornings at 10 a.m.

  • Monday, January 29th: Journalism
  • Monday, February 5th: Business Profiles
  • Monday, February 12th: Advocacy Writing
  • Monday, February 19th: Product Reviewing
  • Monday, February 26th: Review and Awards

Each 90-minute session will be interactive. It will be recorded. Those who need to miss a session will be able to catch up by watching the video at a later time.

Sponsorship/Scholarship: Send a Team Member or Sponsor a Student!

Our workshop leaders encourage the cannabis community to offer this continuing education opportunity to your employees. This workshop covers useful topics for public relations, marketing, sales teams, and brand ambassadors.

We offer this scholarship to the student community in Cannabis Studies programs at the Cleveland School of Cannabis, the University of Cincinnati, University of Maryland, Morehouse College of Medicine, and Hocking College. Any other students may apply as well. The course does not assume a prior knowledge of cannabis, so no experience is necessary to complete the course.

Cannabis Writers’ Workshop: Sponsors Needed!

We ask cannabis businesses again this year to help us cover the tuition of deserving student applicants. We will publicly recognize your company for your contribution on our networks.

Companies wishing to sponsor a student and individuals wishing to participate in the workshop may sign up here. Tuition is $200.
