Our MedicateOH August Astrological Outlook has us looking toward summer’s end. The planets and stars give us a lot to consider this month in the decisions we might make!

With four Retrogrades underway, August isn’t a month to ignore the responsibilities that emerge around upsets, accidents or miscommunications. The end of summer is near, but first Virgo season ushers in. Let’s dig in further:

NEW MOON IN LEO, FULL MOON IN AQUARIUS

This month, the first exact transit is a New Moon in Leo on August 4th. The Sun and Moon conjoin at 12 degrees of Leo at 7:15 a.m. (EST). A New Moon offers no light to the earth in the night; which is only made possible by the light of the Sun. Intention setting and manifesting is associated with New Moons, but letting go of the previous cycle is essential to begin anew.

This is the unique experience of a Conjunction, which occurs when two planets meet at the same degree of the same zodiac sign. In one breath it’s a fresh start, in another it’s an ending. Both Jupiter and Mars in Gemini create an energizing, impactful Sextile to this lunation.

Later in the month, a Full Moon in Aquarius occurs on August 19 at the 27th degree; the Sun in Leo will also be at this degree, which is associated with the sign of Gemini in Degree Theory. Those who have personal planets in the later degrees of Libra or Gemini will be inspired to use this Full Moon to bring their ideas, feelings and inspirations to life.

Products that promote creativity, relaxation and ease of anxiety would be most helpful amidst these lunations. Research has shown the terpene Humulene not only relieves pain, but also promotes creativity and deters anxious feelings. This terpene is fairly easy to find in the Ohio market, and is said to be often found in caryophyllene-dominant strains. Kynd’s Ceasar flower is a great option to reach for, and at AYR dispensaries it can usually be found in stock at a decent price.

MERCURY RETROGRADE FROM VIRGO TO LEO

The second exact transit of the month occurs on August 5th, when Mercury Stations Retrograde at four degrees of Virgo. Mercury is at home in the sign of Virgo, called domicile (something that was a spotlight of last month’s horoscope). Virgo is the Earth sign ruler of Mercury, representing organization and planning, and practical tools that allow for effective execution of both.

Once Mercury is Retrograde, moving smoothly through conversations, proposals and projects becomes more challenging. It’s recommended to hold off on signing contracts or forging commitments in favor of processing and giving a second look. Fortunately, Mercury Stations Direct on August 28th, giving the month a simple goal: edit, replace, and polish.

As Mercury travels backwards, it moves from the early degrees of Virgo into the latest degrees of Leo. On August 14th, Mercury officially makes it way back to the domain of Fixed Fire. Peek at your birth chart and find where the later degrees of Leo fall. This is the area of your chart, and thus the domain of your own life, where Mercury’s energy will be active all month.

Virgo represents the digestive system including the liver, intestine and pancreas. The nervous system is also connected to Virgo, echoing the connection to the stomach which the enteric nervous system controls. Cannabis has been used globally, for centuries, to treat nausea and abdomen pain. B-pinene and B-caryophyllene have been identified as top choice terps for gut health. Combine cannabis and culinary! Medicate with a flavorful concentrate like Hundred Percent Labs Lemon Royale Crumble and nourish your body with a peppery-basil dish (both herbs also high in Humulene).

VIRGO SEASON MARKS SUMMERS’ END

On August 4th, the planet of love, values and aesthetics moves into the sign of Virgo. This is a very different vibe to the expression of Venus in Leo. Rather than exalt a fine display of fashion and fierce defending of friends, Venus in Virgo thinks its way through Venusian topics. Process and practicality are keen to Virgonian energy.

Later in the Month, the Sun moves into Virgo on August 22nd, marking the end of the summer season. In fact, one exact month later is the Fall Equinox. This is echoed by the final transit of the month.

Under the influence of this Mutable Earth energy, feelings of restlessness could be an issue. Along with meditation, journaling and getting lost in your favorite music, adding products that temper consternation and worry are recommended. Myrcene has relaxing effects and comes in healthy doses in both Wellspring Fields Honey B RSO and Klutch’s Sherbhead flower.

VENUS IN LIBRA: DOMICILE AND DIVINE

On August 29th, the last planetary ingression happens when Venus moves into Libra. Libra co-rules the planet with Taurus. In Libra, Venus’s qualities of diplomacy, beauty, justice and harmony become elevated. On the tail-end of the Mercury Retrograde, this becomes a fantastic time to sign contracts, forge connections and establish partnerships.

As the peacemaker of the zodiac, Libra has a melodic approach to relationships. Aligning with people who share your values is the first step to creating change in the world, and under the guidance of this transit, there’s great potential for progress there.
