July’s cannabis astrological outlook report comes in hot like the weather in Ohio this July. Here’s what the stars are saying according to our chief stargazer Alex:

JULY BEGINS UNDER RETROGRADE

We enter the month of July 2024 under a Saturn and Pluto Retrograde, with another outer planet soon joining the backward theme. There’s three domicile planetary ingressions to look forward to, including one with the Sun and another with the Moon.

NEPTUNE RETROGRADE IN PISCES

On July 2, Neptune stations Retrograde at 29-degrees of Pisces. This degree is what’s known as a Critical Degree or Anaretic Degree. This placement is one of the many domicile features in July’s horoscope. Domicile refers to a planet being in its “home domain” in this case, it’s Neptune in Pisces. When a planet is in its Domicile, its characteristics are strengthened. Pisces is a fantastical, spiritual zodiac sign and Neptune is high arts and dreams.

Practicality is not the strength of this combination. Confusion, unconsciousness and uncertainty are commonly associated with both this planet and zodiac. Empathy becomes integral to authenticity. Retrogrades require a “look back” of some sort, so this could be a beneficial time to reflect on the strength and weaknesses of your boundaries.

LEO’S DOMAIN WELCOMES A TRIO

Also on July 2, Mercury moves into Fixed Fire Leo. Communication can become more forceful and enlivening under this transit. This is a fortuitous time to stand ground in an argument or to have important perspectives be heard.

Later, Venus makes its appearance in the sign of Leo on July 11. Last summer, a Venus Retrograde in Leo stirred up drama in relationships, finances and certainly other areas of life depending on where fiery Leo falls in your birth chart. (P.S. I am offering half of birth chart readings all summer!)

Venus traveling through Leo brings a sense of warmth and willpower. Leo Venus energy is that of the heart chakra or spiritual heart. Self-sacrifice is natural, but self-love must be a part of the equation as well. Leo is famously loyal, and Venus relates to our relationships and values. An excellent period of time for supporting or establishing connections with those who are on similar missions to you. Show some attention to the people you love! I have been thinking a bit about offerings lately, specifically making offerings to friends. Venus in Leo loves this energy.

On July 22, the Sun ingresses into Leo, its domicile placement. Leo has similar archetypes and characteristics to the Fifth House in the birth chart. This includes children, playfulness, theatrics, passion, creativity and strength. Though Cancer and the Moon are more known for their connections to emotion, Leo placements in general require emotional wellness. Tend to your heart during this Leo Solar Season and have fun while you’re at it.

JULY 2024 NEW AND FULL MOONS

The third exact transit of the month occurs with a New Moon in Cancer on July 5. Yet another domicile placement, the Moon is right at home in the zodiac sign of Cancer. Those with a Moon in Cancer, unless negatively afflicted by another planet(s), are said to have excellent memory, and even psychic receptivity.

More than any other lunation or planetary ingression, the ephemeral period of the Moon in Cancer emphasizes being comfortable and feeling at home. This New Moon would be considered a “fertile” time – take with that what you will. As a relatively small moment in time of this month, I advise little action to be taken on this day. Cook a delicious meal, spend time with family, read a book, listen to music, get nostalgic. Relax into simple enjoyments.

On the 21st, a Full Moon in Capricorn closes out Cancer season with a bang. In June, we saw the first of the summer’s two Capricorn Full Moons with the one-degree lunation. This second Capricorn Full Moon occurs at the 29th degree. A final release of the experiences, connections, emotions and opportunities that presented themselves over the last 28 days. The Libra in me recommends this to be a fantastic day for a skin detox with clay masks. Those interested in the more “practicality” of Capricorn’s energy should look into a chiropractic or dentist appointment.

MUTABLE INGRESSIONS HAVE A MOMENT

On July 20, fast-paced Mars moves into the sign of stimulating Gemini. Mars in Gemini calls for exploration and travel. Interestingly, though, Gemini is associated with the Third House in the birth chart which governs local community. Take some time towards the end of the month to walk through a new park, stop by a new dispensary, or drive a new route.

Health-wise, supporting the nervous system and strengthening the lungs are indicated with Mars in Gemini. If this feels relevant to your medicating needs, I highly advise switching up your rotation. Gemini loves variety, after all. Edibles like infused flavored honey (Lighthouse Sciences’ lavender is a current favorite) and candy-coated gummies (my sweet tooth loves Aura’s crunch collection) can be a fun way to mix up the way you seek relief.

If you’ve been reading this horoscope a while, you know I love to emphasize the terpenes in flower and concentrates. Both limonene and β-caryophyllene have been studied for their effects on the nervous system, with promising results. Kynd Flower’s Red Velvet Runtz #4 and Rythm’s Cereal Milk are both excellent flower options testing high in these terps.

The last exact transit of this month falls on July 25 when Mercury moves into Virgo, the final domicile to note. Mercury has two ruling zodiac signs, Virgo and Gemini. Virgo has intellectual strength and is excellent at abstract problem solving. Mercury in Virgo can be described as tedious when it comes to writing, so this is a useful time to put pen to paper or finger to keyboard and let loose.

It’s important that I note, however, that Mercury will Retrograde next month, so be flexible – or Mutable – in your approach to communication and publication.
