Saphyre Dispensary: A Unique Ownership Perspective
Saphyre Dispensary’s unique ownership is one of its defining features. Saphyre was founded and is managed by Jacqueline Solomon, a woman, veteran, and minority who’s been a longtime business leader in the Columbus area. The diversity brings a fresh perspective to an industry often criticized for persistent inequities.
Solomon didn’t apply for a dispensary during the first round of Ohio licenses as she wasn’t sure what to expect from the process. She did apply for and was awarded a processing license. Ohio patients may be familiar with her products sold under the name Kwen Extracts.
Solomon said she learned how difficult it could be to do business as a standalone processor not tied to a multi-state operator and without having a dispensary to sell her products. This convinced her to apply for a dispensary during the second round of applications in 2021. She earned one license, under the name Cherokee Remedies. Saphyre opened on August 18th, 2023.
An Exceptional Space
At just under 8,000 square feet of space, Saphyre will be one of the largest dispensaries in Ohio, housed in the former Groll’s Fine Furniture store located in the Easton District on Morse Rd. This expansive space is designed with the comfort and convenience of patients in mind. The lobby is large with plush furniture for lounging while learning from budtenders and vendor educators. A floor-to-ceiling LED screen previews products and announces specials.
One thoughtful design touch is the wall outside the showroom called Phyre Stations for perusing menus on large screens at eye-level. This allows for a more relaxed, immersive and unhurried shopping experience, ensuring that patients can really take their time to make informed decisions about their medication.
Inside the dispensary, a massive showroom allows patients to inspect any of the packages that they’d be buying and receive consulting from their team of knowledgeable budtenders. A big, bright yellow sofa curves across the showroom floor, inviting guests to sit and stay awhile. A pass-thru refrigerator keeps edibles & concentrates cold. “Keeping these products stored at a proper temperature helps in maintaining their terpene profile,” Solomon said.
