Alex’s April Ohio Cannabis Horoscope is a busy one! Following a hectic horoscope in March, April brings Eclipse Season, 4/20, Mercury Retrograde, Earth Day, and more. Here’s what Alex says to expect, including some products to consider along your journey this month:

MERCURY RETROGRADE APPROACHES

The astrology kicks off on April 3rd when Mercury moves into the sign of Taurus. Later in the month, the planet will Retrograde in this zodiac sign, beginning April 21 through May 14. All of the Mercury Retrogrades of 2023 will take place in Earth Signs.

During a Mercury Retrograde (which we experience 2-3 times each year), we are presented with opportunities that slow us down. As frustrating as they may be, in whatever form and fashion they come, these situations arise to redirect us. It’s best to avoid rushing in all matters of communication, contracts, and communion. Instead, this period of time is for revisiting, revising, and restructuring. Mercury governs ideas, communication, and transportation. Expect these areas to be disturbed during this transit. Give yourself more time, and more rounds of edits.

CONJUNCTIONS: FRESH STARTS

Just as Mercury stations Retrograde on April 21 minutes before 5 a.m. EST., it will form an exact Conjunction with the Moon at 15 degrees. Just two degrees away, Uranus also joins this planetary pileup in Fixed Earth Taurus. Conjunctions are when two or more planets come within close proximity from our view here on earth. New moons are popular Conjunctions. From an evolutionary perspective in astrology, these aspects represent new beginnings or a fresh start.

Align with the present energy, and reach for something new to try this month. Taurus is an earth sign, so it feels right to recommend flower this month. If you’re shopping outside of your normal go-to’s, why not give these strains a try? Farmaceutical RX’s Chem Brulee comes from an impressive linage of Platinum Kush x OG Kush x Girl Scout Cookies (GSC), delivering a tasty and soothing blend of terpenes Bisabolol, Limonene, and Beta-caryophyllene. I’m a big fan of fruity flavors like Ohio Clean Leaf’s Blackberry Kush and Banana Puddintain strains as well.

EXPLORING COMMUNITY CONVERSATIONS

On April 6th, the same day as this month’s Full Moon in Libra, Medicate OH will be hosting an important conversation on the opioid crisis on Clubhouse. Full Moons represent the step in the lunar phase associated with completion, fulfillment, releasing, and letting go.

According to the American Medical Association (AMA), an estimated 3% to 19% of people who take prescription pain medications develop an addiction to them. The Mayo Clinic shares that researchers have found taking opioid medications for more than a few days increases your risk of long-term use, which increases your risk of addiction. Even the CDC shares that opioid pain medication use presents serious risks, including overdose and opioid use disorder. But a key issue here is, that many individuals using opioids suffer chronic, ongoing pain.

Cannabis is recognized in Ohio as a treatment for chronic pain. I myself use my MMJ card to access products that target pain and inflammation. Cannabigerol (CBG) is a go-to part of my regimen for its powerful anti-inflammatory benefits.

That’s No Moon from Galenas is one flower option with rich in anti-inflammatory properties from terpenes Humulene and Caryophyllene. Lilac Diesel is another great strain from Galenas, noting Ocimene and Terpinolene terps, antioxidant-rich and anti-inflammatory.

Additionally, chronic pain sufferers considering reducing or eliminating their opioid prescriptions often find relief from a concentrated cannabis oil product called Rick Simpson Oil (RSO). We’ll talk more about this on our broadcast on April 6th.

EXPANDING VALUES AND KNOWLEDGE

Venus, the planet of love, beauty, aesthetics, security, talents, and values moves into the sign of Gemini on April 11th. When an idealistic and romanticizing planet like Venus moves into a fast-moving, nervous system-stimulating, and conversationalist sign like Gemini, we can learn a lot about a lot. Gemini can provide an endless supply of perspective and dissertations.

If you’re feeling encouraged to do some research or reading, bookmark this transit. Since Mars transited through this zodiac sign for the last nearly 8 months, familiar archetypes may arise. Mars’s approach to growth and expansion is rapid, passionate, and domineering. Venus has a far softer approach. After all, it is the planet of partnerships. Gemini too has the inclination for partnerships, so this could be a great time to connect with new groups and new friends.

Finding yourself anxious around this transit? Reach for a vape cartridge for instant relief. Diamond Sciences (which uses Ohio Clean Leaf’s flower) GMO and Lemon Royal carts are potent, and hand-filled onsite at Ohio Clean Leaf in Dayton Ohio. Made with in-house cannabis terpenes, CBC, CBG, and CBN. No Botanical Terpenes or CBD are added during production.

NEW MOON(s) AND SOLAR ECLIPSE(s)

One day before all of the astrology of the 21st, a New Moon and Solar Eclipse take place on April 20th just after midnight (eastern time). As millions of cannabis enthusiasts celebrate the occasion, we’ll be under the influence of a powerful 29-degree Aries Solar Eclipse.

Every year, 4/20 represents an opportunity to normalize and destigmatize the culture of cannabis. As dispensaries run their sales, and brands market their best offerings, we should reflect on the impactful industry changes happening here in Ohio. More patients, advocates, and experts are needed to speak up and share their experiences.

HOPEFUL FOR POSITIVE CHANGES

With all the high vibrations surrounding cannabis on this day, we at Medicate OH feel hopeful for positive change. This is the first time since 2020 that an eclipse takes place on the Cardinal axis. Three years ago, we experienced Cancer and Capricorn eclipses. However, an eclipse set along the Aries-Libra axis last occurred from 2013-2016. Before that, it was 2004-2006.

In a somewhat rare occurrence, a second Solar Eclipse and New Moon happens this month. On April 30 around 4:40 p.m., the lunation will take place at 10 degrees of Taurus. Throughout 2022, Taurus and Scorpio were activated by Solar and Lunar eclipses in the two signs and the pattern continues this year alongside the Aries and Libra eclipses.

EARTH DAY 2023

Though not an astrological event, April 22nd is Earth Day! If you’re feeling inspired to take a closer look at how we Earth citizens can collectively work to conserve our resources, we invite you to visit the topic of cannabis sustainability which we recently covered on our MedicateOH Cannabis Chat program.

Our MedicateOH team will also be on hand for the Cleveland School of Cannabis‘s event on 4/22 for Four Twenty Too: A celebration of cannabis, communities, and companies from Ohio.
