October is here, and at MedicateOH, that means we’re celebrating numerous birthdays! Chief astrologist Alex, founder Gabrielle and editor in chief Mary all celebrate our Solar Return this Libra Season. This month, we start things off in Eclipse energy and finish things off in the domain of Fixed Water. Here’s what you can expect:

SOLAR ECLIPSE WITH MERCURY NEARBY

The first major transit of this month is October 2, when the Sun and Moon meet at 2:49 p.m. in the sign of Cardinal Air. This is not just any New moon, however. This is a Solar Eclipse at the 10th degree of Libra. This Eclipse features a closely Conjunct Mercury at 11°.

We had a similar experience in Libra last Fall, when Mercury was in proximity to the New Moon and Solar Eclipse at 21°. As it were then, this upcoming Eclipse and New Moon activate the archetypes associated with the Sun, Moon, and Mercury which are our identity, feelings and beliefs, respectively. If you’re one to journal, this is a time where I say to go back and reflect: What was up for you then, and how does that relate to what’s up for you now?

A New Moon is often regarded as a prime time for manifesting – and if you’re interested in learning more about how to align with your Astrological placements for Manifesting, don’t miss my upcoming Virtual Class on Oct. 20 where I’m co-teaching exactly this. When Eclipses join the party, it’s usually better to go with the flow rather than try to contort your rituals.

ESTABLISHING EQUILIBRIUM THIS MONTH

Mercury’s co-presence in this Lunation means thoughts as well as feelings have great potential to be active. This is especially true for all Air Signs, Fire Signs, and Cardinal Signs. Libra rules over topics like truth, justice, fairness, balance and peacekeeping. This energy is not critical or dissenting, so be careful not to hold back your true feelings for the sake of others’.

Establishing a sense of equilibrium from the inside out is relevant to Libra’s rulership of homeostatic processes within the body. Libra governs outside appearances through complexion and internally, the kidneys, which remove waste from the body. Multi-organ functionality is well within Libra’s realms, so this is a great time to evaluate how medicine is helping not just one, but a multitude of symptoms or ailments.

The Entourage Effect theory states that various compounds in cannabis work together to create an elevated consumption experience. Beneleaves’ Entourage Effect capsules are one of the best-loved (and easy to source) products for medical patients in Ohio. A variety of minor cannabinoids including CBD, CBN and CBC work together for holistic healing. If you like edibles, Aura’s Pink Lemonade gummies are also packed with cannabinoids like CBC, CBG, and CBD.

OCTOBER ASTROLOGICAL STATIONS RETROGRADE AND DIRECT

On Oct. 9, Jupiter stations Retrograde in Gemini in the wee hours of the morning. Jupiter has been traveling through Mutable Air since May, and will be there until June of next year. Exploratory Jupiter fairs well in the sign of curious Gemini. I mentioned earlier this year that this transit is an especially beneficial time for learning, meeting new people and sharing ideas.

When a planet Stations Retrograde, beginning its backwards motion, this becomes a beneficial time for reflection. This could be a positive time for reflecting on what you’ve learned, who you’ve met, and how you’re engaging. If you’ve not been expanding your horizons quite how you imagined earlier in the year, use this time to get rid of unnecessary distractions. If you’re due for a “social media detox” this is the right time to start.

On Oct. 11, Pluto Stations Direct at 29° of Capricorn. Funny enough, this Retrograde started around the same time as Jupiter’s ingression into Gemini in May. This is the last and final moment of Pluto in Capricorn for our lifetime – that goes for Gen Alpha, too. Though it will not progress to Aquarius until November, this month is heavily focused on Cardinal Earth’s Plutonic power. On the last day of Libra season, Pluto and the Sun will square, with pressures mounting up until that point and days following.

ASTROLOGICAL ENERGIES OF THE UPCOMING U.S. ELECTION

For those who subscribe to my newsletter, you know I have discussed this transit throughout the year, with some concerns about how in the United States it will influence the election. Regardless of who you vote for and why, Pluto’s transformative and powerful energies will not go unnoticed. Capricorn deals with resources, capitalism, ambition and discipline. There is no doubt that rising costs of just about everything coupled with domestic devastation from the elements and ongoing funding of overseas wars has brought us to a point of contention.

So much heaviness from Capricorn in Pluto and overstimulation from Jupiter in Gemini call for a lot of TLC, if you ask me. Products with terpenes like Humulene, Linolool, Myrcene and Caryophyllene are best for soothing an anxious mind. For a quick, no-fuss fix, reach for a tincture instead. The Botanist has a 2:1 calming tincture with a relaxing blend of CBD and THC, but for those who need a little more THC, Butterfly Effect’s 1:1 tincture is worth a try.

MERCURY AND VENUS PROGRESS AHEAD

On Oct. 13, Mercury moves into Fixed Water Scorpio. In the sign of deep and secretive Scoprio, Mercury becomes more intuitive but also literal. If you have any Water Sign placements or birth chart placements that become activated by Mercury’s transit in Scorpio, you have potential to feel more psychically connected to those around you. This could be exciting, or shocking, depending on the company you keep. Communication and connections can become intense and deep. This is not revered a time for flexibility and mental faculties may feel like it’s “all or nothing.”

On Oct. 17th, the same day as a Full Moon in Aries, Venus moves into Sagittarius. This is an exciting placement for Venus, as the planet of love, values and skills becomes more adventurous and well-humored. This is a great time to take a class, sharpen your skills or even take a trip away from your daily routes. You could find yourself more easily bored around this time of the month, which can serve as inspiration to diversify your meal plans or plans in general.

FIRE FIRE FIRE OR WATER?

Depending on the school of Astrology you follow, Scorpio’s rulership can be not just that of Fixed Water, but also Fire. For this reason, I often say “Scorpio is the Fire Sign of the Water Signs.” What is no doubt a Fire Sign is the first of all the Zodiac, Aries.

On Oct. 17, the Sun and Moon will oppose one another creating a Full Moon in Aries. Full Moons are known as a time for release, cleansing, and reflection. And because fire can be purifying (depending on the use of its energy) this is energetically attuned to setting something ablaze. As a cleansing ritual, this would be the perfect Full Moon to write out negative or irritating emotions on a of paper, and banish them to a bonfire or fire pit. (Always be sure to check your county’s burn ban rules and always safely extinguish any flames.)

The last transit of the Month to note is Oct. 22, when the Sun moves into Scorpio. Square to the Sun’s natal ruler, this is a difficult expression for Solar energy. Admiring its privacy and passion, the Sun’s ingression into Scorpio is a good time to dive deep into personal interests or strategic moves forward. As we descend further into the Fall season, we watch the environment around us change. This annual evolution is reminiscent of Scorpio’s own connection to movement (Mars) and change (Pluto). Embodying shifts are right on time, and perfectly in character, for Scorpio season.
