We welcome big news in the cannabis world as we set our sights on what’s ahead for the month of May in our MedicateOH astrological outlook. How will planetary forces shake up our best laid plans and what can we do to guard against them? Our resident stargazer Alex has the latest for you all:

PLUTO RETROGRADE

In the month of May, we begin with a retrograde and end with an ingression of an effusive planet. The first of the month marks the midpoint between the Spring Equinox and Summer Solstice.

Pluto stations retrograde Pluto has been in the sign of Aquarius since Jan. 20, making it only to the second-degree of Aquarius since then.

Now, it begins its transition backwards, revisiting the earliest degrees of Aquarius, which it will do yet again once this retrograde is over. This is the final Pluto Retrograde (in our lifetime) that will take it back into the previous sign: Capricorn. Later in the year (during election season), Pluto will retrograde to the 29° of Capricorn. But more on that then.

Under the circumstances and conditions that exist globally, the conflicts, uprising and power struggles, it’s important to pay attention to finite details that are easily overlooked amidst attention-grabbing headlines. Pluto was a very slow moving planet, but it’s a destructive force. It’s often that circumstances and events that occur under its influence represent a larger, bigger dynamic at play.

Survival instincts can be activated under the pressures of Pluto. Some of the most soothing solutions feature a heavy dose of the linalool. Promoting relaxation and stress relief, this commonly-found terpene is the same aromatic in lavender plants. Lighthouse Sciences’ lavender infused-honey is a great accompaniment to a cup of tea in the evening.

If you have placements at 0-2° of a fixed sign (Aquarius, Taurus, Leo, Scorpio). This could be a time where what progress you have made feels like it gets taken back in some way. However, all retrogrades help us edit and reform so that before we move forward the cracks in the foundation are first repaired.

NEW AND FULL MOONS

The second exact transit this month is on May 7th when there is a new moon in Taurus at the 18th degree (associated with fellow Earth sign Virgo). During this new moon, we have a planetary pileup of Fixed Earth Energy with Uranus at 22°, Venus at 10° and Jupiter at 25° of Taurus.

For the millennials out there (1983-1995 with some retrograde exceptions), all this Taurus energy is opposing our signature Scorpio Pluto in a significant way. Uranus wants change, Venus emboldens our values and Jupiter expands outwards. Learning a new skill can combine these qualities in a productive way.

This month’s Full moon occurs in Sagittarius on May 23. A Sagittarius Full Moon is the only time of the year that a Mutable Fire lunation takes place when the Sun is moving near the Earth (in the western hemisphere) rather than farther away. Appetites can be stimulated, and this means appetites of all types. A hunger for knowledge and wisdom, for spiritual meaning, for fruitful connections.

Plant matter and cannabis are deeply Taurean in their nature. Products like RSO, rosin, and live resin preserve utilize the greatest quantities of the cannabis plant properties in their medicine. Ancient Roots’ Lemon Kush Live Rosin Badder and Certified’s Larry’s Breath RSO pack this healing plant power into their highly concentrated products.

Astrologically, the Moon is our sensitive soul. It’s how we nurture ourselves and others, and how we express our emotions. Sagittarius is a fire sign in motion. Often, the power and impact of fire can be frightening. But the power of fire is also regenerative and renewing. One way to tap into this sensitivity could be by attending our STORYTELLERS Night on May 10th. Confused on your cannabis wellness journey? Our event is designed to alleviate those fears by gathering in a supportive atmosphere.

JUPITER MOVES INTO GEMINI

After having spent a year in the sign of Fixed Earth, the expansive and philosophical planet Jupiter moves into Gemini on May 25. Here, all things mercurial become bigger and more stimulated. Communication, community, and idea-sharing have potential for greater impact.

Jupiter governs publishing and Gemini talking, so during the next year as we journey in this transit, get inspired to share your story with the world. Learn from those around you. Explore new places and spaces in your neighborhood. The adventurous spirit of Jupiter and curiosity of Gemini play together well. As with all zodiacal archetypes, the “shadow side” of this transit is gossip and misinformation. So, vet your sources! It is an election year after all.

Gemini governs the lungs in astrology and care for these delicate organs is highly recommended, especially for those with Gemini placements. This is true for all Air signs (Libra, Aquarius, Gemini) and Mutable signs (Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, Pisces).

ADDITIONAL INGRESSIONS

On May 15, Mercury moves into Taurus, joining three other planets here. Communication becomes slower in the sign of Taurus. As a Fixed Sign, Taurus doesn’t welcome fast-paced change. If you’re formulating a new practice or routine this month (both Mercurial) this is a great time to focus on needed resources and skills to support them.

The planet of love, money, and values makes its move into Gemini when Venus moves into Mutable Air on May 23. There’s a flirty and playful energy that surrounds this transit. Venus represents our intimate connections: romantic and business relationships. Gemini stimulates our senses (which Venus also rules) making it a perfect time to play with new flavors, textures, methods and techniques when it comes to your medicinal routine.
