We’re halfway through the 2024 calendar, and it’s big Gemini energies that start out our June. Gemini governs trickery as much as it does connection and chattiness. As we gaze into the near future for our own lives (as well as for legal cannabis in Ohio and beyond), you might notice some familiar themes arise.

A BIG JUNE!

We enter into the month of June with a considerable amount of Mutable Air energy, with more to follow as additional planets also move into Gemini. Hasty Mercury moves quickly through two zodiac signs, the Full Moon is in “detriment”, and the month closes with Saturn stationing Retrograde.

HOME AT LAST: MERCURY MOVES INTO GEMINI

Mercury moves into Gemini on June 3, marking the first exact transit of the month.

Archetypal astrology identifies Gemini as a co-ruler of the planet Mercury, along with Mutable Earth sign Virgo. However, chronologically Gemini comes before Virgo and thus is the first ruling zodiac we correspond with the planet.

While in Gemini, Mercury welcomes new ideas. Though, as I have mentioned before, it is an election year, and we would be wise to be attentive to whom’s ideas we indulge. Gemini governs trickery as much as it does chattiness. During this transit, it’s best to not get hung up on details. Mercury in any sign can paint a picture, but Gemini can make the brush strokes broader.

Hasty mercurial energy is calmed by Venus and anchored by Saturn, according to Claire Gallagher’s book “Body Astrology.” For half of the month, Venus and Mars also transit Gemini while Saturn maintains its stay in Mutable Water sign Pisces. The vibe is engaging – but certainly stimulating! This could be welcomed or a warning depending on your nervous system.

In the witty excitement of it all, you can find yourself burnt out if you “over do it” – whatever “it” is. Relaxing herbs like passionflower and reishi (talk with your doctor first, of course) can be a great addition to a medicinal cabinet. Concentrated RSO syringes like those from Standard Farms and Certified Cultivators can offer serious relief to a fatigued mind and body in relatively small doses. Plus, they tend to offer more variety of cannabinoids than flower or vapes.

NEW MOON AND FULL MOON OF THE MONTH

The second exact transit of the month is the New Moon in Gemini on June 6. Each month we have a New Moon, but this month is unique in that the lunation occurs with Venus at the same degree. That means the Sun, Moon, and Venus are all conjoined in a Cazimi at 16 degrees during the New Moon at 8:38 a.m.

A Venus Cazimi – when the Sun and Venus conjoin at the same position and zodiac sign – is considered an auspicious moment astrologically. With the manifesting momentum of the New Moon, this would be a superb time to utilize skills and talents to join or support a community movement or even develop an impactful project with favored results. At the very least, it’d be beneficial to write down intentions for the next 28 days.

Weeks later on June 21, the Moon moves into Capricorn for a Full Moon. Only one day prior did the Sun transition into the sign of Cancer, making this Full Moon occur at an early degree. In fact, this occurs at 1 degree of Cardinal Earth and Water. Nearly all astrology content you will come across explains that in Capricorn, the Moon is least comfortable. This is because the Moon is associated with Cancer, Capricorn’s opposite sign. This makes the Moon in Capricorn, especially when full, furthest away from its home-base.

The Moon in Capricorn shows the need for humility and understanding of emotional roles, or even boundaries. Full Moons work through releasing energy. Capricorn, ruled by Saturn, is particularly effective at keeping walls up. Especially when something as tender as emotions are involved. A trifecta of planets in tender Cancer during this lunation may make things extra emo.

If you find yourself needing a pick-me-up, Beneleaves Helios sativa capsules are an option I like. Also, Limonene-heavy strains like Ancient Roots’ Lemon Kush, Klutch’s Lemon Slushee, or Buckeye Relief’s Lemon Dosidos all feature this uplifting and aromatic terpene. Studies on limonene show it may relieve stress, increase energy, and improve one’s mood.

MERCURY AND VENUS MOVE INTO CANCER

On June 17, both Mercury and Venus move into the sign of Cancer. Venus in Cancer is kind and compromising while being defensive and self-protective. However, the need to keep oneself safe can often develop a barrier to connection. Mercury in Cancer is described as warm and inviting, rather than hot and direct like Mercury in Aries. Driven by values and idea-sharing, this planetary combination in Cardinal Water is fertile ground for deepening intimate relationships.

Beyond romance, this is very much also a celestial season to make new connections and find friendships in comfortable spaces. All the Gemini energy that proceeds this part of the astro-forecast encourages connection and discussion, so there’s real potential for powerful bonds to form.

Trailing behind the planet of communication and love, Mars moves into Taurus on June 9, with a journey in Gemini and Cancer in months to follow. Mars in Taurus needs sustainable energy, so feeding the body with deeply nourishing foods is highly recommended. This is especially true for those who have the placement of Mars in Taurus in their birth chart.

The progression of Mars to Taurus coincides with the close of National Gardening Week, which takes place June 2nd to 8th. There is so much evidence that gardening is not only good for your diet, but also your mental health. Even if you don’t have the space or mobility to have a grand garden, growing your own herbs can be a deeply rewarding and regenerative experience.

SATURN RETROGRADE IN PISCES 2024

The first and only retrograde for Saturn in Pisces this year starts June 29. Up to this point, Saturn has reached the 19th degree. From the end of this month through November, the planet of stability, structure and security will regress to the 12th degree. This in addition to Pluto’s Retrograde to Capricorn are timed with election season, but there will be more on that later.

For those who are approximately 29-30 years old, 59-60 years old, or 89-90 years old, Saturn in Pisces marks the Saturn Return in the birth chart. If you’re a native with Saturn in Pisces between 12 and 19 degrees, themes or conversations from the first half of the year may re-emerge in the second half. Progress may feel stalled. But Saturn Retrograde, as all Retrogrades are, should be used to assess and mend any cracks in the foundation.

MEDICATE OH EVENTS AND HAPPENINGS JUNE AND BEYOND

After our weekend-long marketing activation at Dark Star Jubilee, the planets just didn’t quite align to also have our planned disc golf tourney on 6/2. The event is being postponed to make it BIGGER! Stay tuned for the new date. On 6/4, you can meet us at the Cincinnati Medical Marijuana Meetup at Madtree in Cincinnati and be sure to catch us July 5th and 6th for the Paradise on the Point Festival.

On 7/10 “Oil Day” we’ll meet at French Park in Cincinnati for our Community Day & “Crafternoon”. Like its sister holiday 4/20, the origins of the 7/10 holiday are somewhat up for debate. What we do know for sure, though, is that 710 when turned upside down reads OIL, and that’s how it’s suspected that the connection to cannabis oil happened. Come out on Wednesday, July 10th at the French Park shelter from 3-9 p.m. to meet our growing community of friends and canna-partners, sign up for an mmj card, and tie dye a t-shirt.
