As the regulated cannabis market matures in Ohio, MedicateOH editors are witnessing a profound transition from a grassroots movement into a scaled, corporate infrastructure. For many, the era of legalization looks like a massive success, bringing unprecedented access to the plant. Consumers are currently enjoying historically low prices across the market. However, behind the scenes, operators and frontline workers are navigating a completely different economic reality—one defined by a structural margin collapse and the growing pains of commoditization.

The Frontline Reality

While sales volume continues to rise, operators are facing severe pressures from oversupply and heavy taxation. This forces many retailers into a race to the bottom, pushing high-margin products just to keep the lights on. In this environment, budtenders and frontline employees serve as the crucial bridge between the corporate office and the consumer, often seeing exactly where the friction lies. Caught between enforcing corporate inventory mandates and providing the personalized, culture-driven care that patients expect, these workers are navigating competing priorities daily.

Help Us Write the Story

At MedicateOH, we believe that understanding these structural pressures and economic realities is vital to the sustainable future of our community. Rather than relying on assumptions or subjective critiques, we want to let the economics and the voices of the frontline workers do the heavy lifting.

That is why we are officially launching The Ohio Cannabis Pulse Survey. We are gathering structured feedback from every level of the ecosystem to build a comprehensive, data-backed report on the state of our industry.

We have designed two distinct, anonymous surveys to capture both sides of the counter:

  • The Industry Pulse: Whether you are an entry-level budtender, a trimmer on the front lines, or an executive in the boardroom, we need your insights. This survey measures everything from workplace culture and upward communication to the daily impact of regulatory burdens.
  • The Consumer Voice: For the legacy community, patients, and casual consumers, we want to know how you perceive the value, quality, and culture of today’s retail experience compared to the pre-legalization era.

Your Voice Matters

Both surveys take just a few minutes to complete and are completely anonymous. By participating, you are directly contributing to real, independent journalism for the Ohio community. The data we collect will help stakeholders recognize that community trust, competitive compensation, and clear communication are essential tools for long-term retail success and industry sustainability.
