Ohio Cannabis Company (OCC) will expand its dispensary footprint into the state capital. The upcoming opening of the company’s newest store at 4310 West Broad Street brings Ohio cannabis products to one of Columbus’s busiest corridors.

The location’s soft opening was on Thursday, January 22nd, with a full Grand Opening celebration on Friday, January 23rd. MedicateOH spoke with Ohio Cannabis Company’s management team to learn more about the company’s growth and plans for expansion:

The History of Ohio Cannabis Company: A Homegrown Success Story

The journey to building their fourth Ohio store at West Broad Street began with a strategic move by owners Brian Wingfield and Cindy Bradford. As early pioneers in the state’s program, the duo opened their first dispensary in Coshocton, which was just the ninth medical marijuana dispensary to open in Ohio when it welcomed patients in March 2019.

In a move that defined the company’s trajectory, the team sold the Coshocton location to enter Ohio’s second dispensary lottery in 2021. Their parlay paid off when they won three new licenses, allowing them to establish roots opening dispensaries in Harpster (Upper Sandusky), Canton, and Piqua.

While the company also earned a processing license, Wingfield and Bradford decided that their true strength lay in retail operations. They made the strategic choice to sell the processing arm of the business to finance a major expansion into the Columbus market. The West Broad Street location is the first of three new Columbus-area dispensaries scheduled to open in the coming year.

A Prime Location on Broad and 270

The new West Broad Street dispensary is situated in a high-visibility area near I-270. Wingfield pointed out that the shop is located right in the heart of the action, noting its proximity to several local hotspots.

“We’re basically across the street from the Hollywood Casino,” Wingfield noted, highlighting a major landmark that draws thousands of visitors to the area. He also mentioned that the dispensary is situated near the OhioHealth Doctors Hospital campus, reinforcing the shop’s connection to the local healthcare community. By moving into the former Boston Market space, OCC is taking over a recognizable spot that local residents already know well.

Convenience and Cashless Payment: The West Broad Difference

A standout feature of the new Broad Street location is the inclusion of a drive-thru, designed to streamline the experience for returning patients and consumers. Wingfield noted that this addition is about providing options that fit into people’s busy lives. For those who already know what they need, the drive-thru offers a fast, efficient way to pick up orders placed online. For those who prefer to come in to make purchases, an ample parking lot is available.

Regarding payment, Wingfield clarified that OCC aims to keep things simple and modern. In addition to cash and debit cards, the dispensary offers Dutchie Pay, a secure, cashless way to pay for cannabis directly from a bank account.

“We want to make sure the process is as easy as possible,” Wingfield said. “Whether you’re paying with cash or using something like Dutchie Pay, we want our customers to have choices that work for them.”

Education First: Bridging the Gap Between Medical and Adult-Use

One of the most important aspects of the new Columbus shop is the commitment to medical-level knowledge for every person who walks through the door. Wingfield shared that since the transition to adult-use, he has noticed a significant trend: consumers without a medical card are often the most inquisitive patrons.

“People who don’t have their medical card are asking a lot of medical questions,” Wingfield observed. “They want to know how these products work, what the dosages should be, and how it might help them with specific issues or conditions.”

To meet this need, OCC ensures that its staff is trained to answer questions in a medically-knowledgeable way, regardless of whether a customer is a registered patient or a recreational consumer. Wingfield feels this approach helps destigmatize the plant and ensures that even those new to cannabis can find a product that works for them safely and effectively.

A Local Alternative in Columbus

As the 2026 market sees more multi-state operators (MSOs) entering the state, Wingfield takes pride in OCC’s status as a homegrown business. The expansion into Columbus is seen as a way to offer a local alternative to the larger corporate dispensaries, focusing on the specific needs of Ohio residents.

“Being Ohio-owned means we live in these communities,” Wingfield said. “We want our Columbus location to reflect that same level of care and local connection we’ve built in our other shops.”
