This week, Tyler Baker reviewed Gelato, a strain by Pure Ohio Wellness. Here’s a little about his experience with this popular strain noted for relaxing effects accompanied by a euphoric high:

About Pure Ohio Wellness

Pure Ohio Wellness is a level 1 cultivator as well as a processor located in Clark County. They also have 2 dispensaries near Dayton. At Pure Ohio Wellness, also know as POW, they strive to grow the best medicine possible for a reasonable price.

One thing I have noticed at the Pure Ohio Wellness dispensary is they have more affordable prices that their product is offered at compared to other Ohio dispensaries. They are one of the largest vertically integrated companies in the state of Ohio. Vertical integration is when 1 company has 2 or more stages of production which is normally done by separate companies. As far as cannabis companies go, this is referring to the cultivation, processing, and selling system (dispensary) in which they operate.

About Gelato

Gelato is a very popular strain throughout the United States. Originally a part of the cookies family, there are multiple crosses that this strain has ranging from the original gelato all the way to gelato #33 and gelato #41. When doing research on this strain there was an overwhelming amount of information but as far as I could see there are multiple breeders that have created different versions of it.

Indica/Sativa Ratio: 50/50 Hybrid

Terpene Profile: Limonene, Caryophyllene, Linalool, Pinene

Dispensary: Body and Mind in Elyria, Ohio

Gelato First Impressions

This came in a smaller plastic jar with a white childproof lid smaller than most other 2.83 jars. After I purchased this, I took some time to admire the creativity that was put into this container. A QR code to look at full test results is also provided.

I love the artwork that they have recently started putting on their jars. They asked patients that were also artists to come up with something to feature on their packaging, and I think the one they selected was perfect. The label includes a visually satisfying bowl of gelato accompanied with some fruit as well as some UFO shaped cookies flying around. I hope they continue this awesome process of obtaining artwork. The artwork is by TinyTotLiz.

Gelato Visuals, Aromas, Effects

Upon opening the jar, I was very pleased to come across some delicious aromas starting with a creamy citrus with floral undertones. Each bud was a different shape, but mostly smaller to medium sized nuggets with a fair amount of density.

A layer of kief made the color of the bud a nice light green. Heating up my vaporizer to a lower end temperature, this flower was so tasty I didn’t want to stop taking hits! Gave me a nice aftertaste that left me with a tickle in my throat. The effects kicked in fast and hard, going straight to a full body high, I felt both euphoric and relaxed for a beautiful long lasting high!

Gelato Terpenes and Cannabinoids

Checking out the numbers on this strain, I was very pleased with the results. Terpenes testing at 2.4% with a THC of 26.45%, which makes for a very flavorful session that comes on hard and fast. I would recommend taking your time when consuming because this high took over my anxiety and pain I have been experiencing lately with ease. Check out the full COA here.

Gelato Final Thoughts

In the first year of the medical marijuana program being up and running I heard things about Pure Ohio Wellness that they had great prices, but the quality of the cannabis wasn’t very good when compared to other growers in the state. Over the past 6 months, I have been seeing more and more patients in the state saying how their skills have developed and the cannabis they are putting out is right there on par with the rest of the bigger companies in Ohio. One thing is for sure, I will be seeking out more Pure Ohio Wellness products in the future!
