Greater Cincinnati’s cannabis community has a new destination to look forward to. King City Gardens is continuing its rapid expansion across the region, celebrating its latest media day to announce the upcoming opening of The Garden in Colerain Township.

This marks the fourth dispensary for the King City team, building on a successful portfolio that began with the acquisition of Off the Charts in Dayton, followed by successful storefront openings in Camp Washington and Sycamore Township.

Patients and cannabis consumers can mark their calendars: a soft opening is scheduled from October 16 through November 7, leading up to the official Grand Opening on November 7.

Threading the Needle: Overcoming Zoning Hurdles

Securing the Colerain Township site was no walk in the park. According to King City co-founders Bill Foster and Steve Anevski, the journey to find the ideal location was an 18-month endeavor that required three separate attempts.

“For those who don’t know, there’s a lot of criteria that we have to meet to open one of these stores,” the team explained. “And with Colerain Township, we had to have a 750-foot buffer between prohibited uses. There’s certain zones. The state has requirements that we had to meet. So it was really trying to thread the needle and find that needle in the haystack to find the right site.”

Ultimately, the team’s persistence paid off. They credited the success of the build and site selection to support from the Colerain Township officials, the landlord and building ownership group, as well as various local contractors and vendors who stepped up to help bring the vision to life.

A Fresh Vibe with High-Volume Infrastructure

Stepping inside, visitors will find a design aesthetic consistent with the King City family—featuring bright floral wallpaper and tall, airy ceilings that cultivate an open, welcoming, and vibrant atmosphere.

While most of King City’s locations feature drive-thrus, Colerain Township will not to feature a drive-thru due to its positioning within a closed strip of businesses. However, patients and consumers need not worry, as the location will proudly offer convenient curbside service instead.

Behind the welcoming aesthetic lies a robust, high-volume operational infrastructure. Keisha Williams, Regional Dispensary Manager, readied Off the Charts to change ownership to The Garden last year, and has been busy with the opening of each of the three new The Garden locations. “This is the third location, and it was actually the smoothest opening location as well.”

Dispensary Manager Brijeit Harrison Schnurr highlighted the facility’s specialized layout, which includes a dedicated kitchen area and optimized floor plans designed for managing large crowds efficiently.

“I said a lot of beautiful things about the infrastructure, and I think that’s something that definitely sets us apart here,” Harrison noted. “We have the space to make sure that we’re detail-oriented and make sure that we’re processing things in a quick manner.”

Community-Backed Staffing and Training

To prepare for high patient and customer volume, King City Gardens has hired over 40 new employees for the Colerain store.

Ensuring a seamless onboarding process, training support is being provided hands-on by experienced existing teams from the Camp Washington and Sycamore locations, with dedicated regional trainer Victoria overseeing the professional development of the new staff.
